In February 2010, the US Department of Health and Human Services announced that SAGE—in partnership with 10 leading organizations nationwide—had received a historic grant to seed the creation of National Resource Center on LGBT Aging. In October 2010, the center officially launched, providing critical resources for years to come. Learn more about this historic moment. ▶
Training for Aging Providers and LGBT Organizations. For organizations that are funded by the Older Americans Act or the Administration on Aging, the National Resource Center on LGBT Aging offers a suite of in-person and online cultural competence trainings on the various issues affecting LGBT older people. A unique clearinghouse of educational resources. The website for the National Resource Center on LGBT serves as a robust hub of educational resources on LGBT aging. To educate aging providers, LGBT organizations and LGBT older people about the many issues facing our aging communities, SAGE has created and compiled hundreds of commentaries, videos, publications, and much more. Advocacy to establish this treasured resource. The upcoming reauthorization of the Older Americans Act will provide a pivotal opportunity to permanently establish the National Resource Center on LGBT Aging, ensuring that these vital resources support millions of LGBT older adults in future generations.
