About Us

Partnership is one of SAGE’s strongest guiding principles. We recognize the many benefits that come from working with organizations that are situated across the aging and health fields, the LGBT movement, and the broader progressive movement working to improve the health and well-being of older adults, LGBT people, people with disabilities, and poor and low-income people. Below are some current highlights.

To capitalize on a political moment, and to ensure that the policy barriers facing elders of color and LGBT elders were concurrently addressed, SAGE helped co-create a Diverse Elders Coalition.

To launch and help guide the nation's first-ever National Resource Center on LGBT Aging, SAGE has brought together 14 leading organizations from the aging and LGBT fields.

To support the growing number of older adults with HIV— a population that will represent one in two Americans with HIV/AIDS by 2015—SAGE is working with ACRIA and GMHC.

To provide effective programming in all five boroughs of New York City, SAGE is working with various community-based organizations, including the Bronx Community Pride Center, Queens Community House and more.

To ensure that federal agencies address the needs of LGBT older adults, SAGE is working with the National Gay and Lesbian Task Force and its New Beginning Initiative, as well as leading the National LGBT Aging Roundtable with the Task Force.

To draw attention to the significant barriers facing transgender older adults, SAGE and the National Center for Transgender Equality launched a Transgender Aging Advocacy Initiative.

To conduct comprehensive policy research on Medicaid, spousal impoverishment protections and same-sex couples, as well as differences across states, SAGE worked with The Williams Institute at UCLA.

To release a policy report on the barriers facing LGBT older adults, SAGE worked with the Movement Advancement Project, Center for American Progress, the American Society on Aging and the National Senior Citizens Law Center.
